In those same terrifying days when the Prime Minister of Israel, Avraham Durk, called for the Israeli Arabs
from the Knesset podium to renege their betrayal of the Israeli state and democracy, most of the Israeli politicians
were busily engaged in their own, personal survival. Most of them had already sent their families abroad.
A general recruitment, announced by the State, led to an influx of Jewish volunteers from abroad, who came
to help the Israeli people in their war, but the airplanes were also full on their way back, mostly with the family members
of the top echelons. Things got to the point that some of the religious Knesset members were absent from the Knesset
Assembly due to their extensive travels abroad.

The radio networks banded into one consecutive news broadcast; the news flashes only increased the sense of helplessness
and nullity of the Israeli citizen. People on the streets panicked. Netanya and Ashqelon were bombarded with heavy artillery
and mortars and the only thing that the citizens of Israel could do was helplessly sit in their bomb shelters.
The military forces were busy repelling Israel's external enemies and the police could not cope with the devastating
Palestinian forces which scattered terror within the country.

Throughout the entire war, the Prime Minister of Israel, Avraham Durk, held emergency conversations with the
United States Ambassador to Israel. Most of the foreign diplomatic staff and families had already left Israel earlier,
and the only diplomatic staff left was for emergencies only. In these conversations,
Avraham Durk asked for additional arms and ammunition.

Avraham Durk held long and arduous telephone conversations with the Americans, to force the invading Arab countries
to agree to a cease-fire, however all of the conversations with the American President ended in vague answers,
with the promise to return to him within several hours with answers from the Arab rulers.
It was clear to the American President that the Arabs would not stop at any stage, even if Israel introduced
its nuclear weapons into the theater. The Arabs finally had the chance to finish off the Zionist entity and they would not forsake
that chance for any amount, or at any price.

In the last stage of the war, when the Arab armies were already converging on Israel's main highways
towards Tel-Aviv, Avraham Durk begged the United States President to send reinforcements of ammunition and even soldiers,
however the United States President unequivocally informed him that he could receive all the arms in the world
and any assistance, except for American soldiers. When Avraham Durk raised the issue of the use of atom bombs by Israel,
the United States president clarified that the United States government could never support such a measure and in such case,
he could not expect any aid nor support from the United States. At this stage of the conversation,
Avraham Durk slowly laid the telephone down, and knew that he was the only one in the world to make the decision
to use Israel's nuclear weapons.

The unexpected attack of the Palestinians and the Syrian and Iraqi commando units who invaded Israel damaged
some of the Israeli Air Force bases and undermined the ability of the Israeli Air Force to maintain the aerial umbrella
which the IDF so desperately needed on its different fronts. Palestinian infiltrators invaded Israeli territory and positioned
themselves in the vicinity of the airports. There they lay in ambush, shooting shoulder missiles from very close range at
Israel's airplanes as they took off, thereby disarming the power of the air force. A massive hunt was held after these terrorists,
but the damage had already been done, and the efficiency of the Israeli Air Force had been severely damaged,
especially in the first days, which were critical to the outcome of the war.

The Syrian, Iraqi and Iranian missile attacks on the cities of Israel only increased the large amount of casualties
among the Israeli public. The State of Israel had never invested resources in its shelters and indeed when at the crucial point,
there were many casualties, with many buildings in the cities of Israel collapsing from the force of the bombing.

Avraham Durk, who throughout his entire life was known to be a settlement-pursuing, peace-loving man,
struggled with the decision to bomb targets in Syria and Iraq with unconventional weapons. Israel's major cities – Jerusalem,
Tel-Aviv, Haifa and the Kryiot, were hard hit by the missiles and cannon shells. The sight of the half-destroyed buildings,
pockmarked with bomb shrapnel, evoked images from the days of the War of Independence.

Even the grim meetings held by the Israeli General Staff regarding the unstable situation did not bring the Israeli Prime Minister,
Avraham Durk, to decide to threaten Israel's neighbors with the use of unconventional weapons.

"I am a religious and moral man, and I am unwilling to go down in history as the person who introduced the atom bomb
to the region". The Chief of the General Staff replied: "If so, you shall go down in history as the Prime Minister who triggered
the fall of the Third Temple of Israel".

In a speech to the American people, the United States president responded: "Israel is our ally and we are committed to helping her
and doing all that we can to protect her. We are acting quite vigorously in diplomatic channels as well as in the supply of weapons
to our allies in the region". The television commentator, Ronny Emmanuel, stated on the television broadcast following
the speech of the United States president that: "From his speech it appears that the United States does not wish to actively
intervene in any way in the campaign waged between us and the Arab armies. We must rely only on ourselves".

In a huge effort to halt the retreat and the abandoning of borders in the Golan Heights, the Israeli Air Force rained
neutron bombs on the Golan Heights to annihilate the aggressor forces. This helped for only two days.
The torrents of Syrian, Iraqi and Iranian tanks received unexpected reinforcements from Pakistan and
for the first time in the battles, even units from Libya and Egypt reached the northern front to participate in the campaign.
After only two days, the first tanks rolled down the hills towards Tiberias. Parallel columns invaded from the direction
of the Shalom Bridge near Bet-She'an and the Allenby Bridge with one sparse column even trickling in from
the direction of Rosh Hanikra towards Haifa.

At the end of the day, Avraham Durk appeared on live broadcast on Israeli television from a shelter somewhere
in the vicinity of the Kirya in Tel-Aviv. In a resolute speech, Avraham Durk announced his intention to order
the Israeli Air Force to bomb the capitals of Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Iraq with atom bombs if within 3 hours the aggressor forces
failed to retreat. Avraham Durk seemed tired, exhausted, unshaven and unconvincing, after several sleepless nights,
and this only increased the sense of distress and helplessness that he projected. Avraham Durk's speech caused
a great diplomatic furor around the world, and diplomats of all kinds and colors burned up the telephone lines
between the world capitals and the Israeli Prime Minister's Office.

Now, when the collapse of the State of Israel was almost a fact, massive diplomatic pressure was applied
to Prime Minister Avraham Durk, lest he dare attack the Arab countries with atomic weapons.
Avraham Durk was offered enticements together with threats from the heads of governments and presidents.
The British Prime Minister, Russian President and United States President were included on the list of those "applying pressure".
Among the enticements offered Avraham Durk and his government was diplomatic asylum in the United States
as well as in additional European countries, however Avraham Durk refused to even consider such an option.

The last combat flight in the south of the country, from one of the last airports which remained active,
waited in vain for authorization to take off. The bombs were still on the planes when the State of Israel announced its surrender.
